DOES PHILOSOPHY PLAY AN ENORMOUS ROLE?

“Philosophy” as the sound of it is new to us. I think we have taken a fresh start to study it. While I am studying in this week, I have cleared many doubtful ideas about philosophy. Here I hope to discuss about the knowledge that I have gotten from this week’s course content and learning materials. When I was learning through this new subject, I was able to make changes of my point of view even by learning the basic concepts of this course.

Keywords: epistemology, argument, ethics, pragmatism, realism

1. Introduction

When the word “philosophy” comes to our mind thousands of doubtful and muddled ideas cover us. My topic is “Does Philosophy Play an Enormous Role?” In here I am going to summarize the things what I have learned so far about philosophy.

What is the philosophy? Bond between science and philosophy, Areas of philosophy, what are the advantages of having a field like this, is it useful or useless; under these subtopics I am going to talk about my ideas.

2. WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY?

What is philosophy? What does it mean? It is made up of two Greek words. They are “Philo” and “Sophia”. Philo means love and Sophia means wisdom. That is how philosophy word made and therefore philosophy can define as love of wisdom.

2.1 WHAT IT IS BASED ON

On which type of actions does philosophy based? Different people can express their own idea. Even someone can say all we need is to eat, to live, but according to my opinion, philosophy is based on action of thinking and reasoning. Philosophy gives a structure to do those things.

 2.2 MY EXPERIENCE

Let me explain it using my own experience. There is about 40 km distance from my home to school. I can get on the bus near the home, but it takes one and half hours to go to the school. Although railway station is a little bit far away from the home it takes just 40 minutes to go. Then what is the philosophy used here. Rather than go by bus, I was encouraged to travel by train usually, because as a student time is more precious for me. I could save 50 minutes by using the train.

That is an example of reasoning and thinking. I could have to choose the best way, after analyzing the situation. If someone says that we do not need philosophy, the question that I have to ask is “Don’t you face this type of problems in your day-to-day life.

 3. SCIENCE AND PHILOSOPHY

As the students who are learning science, all of us have a common question. That is “Is there any relationship between science and philosophy?” If it is yes, what is that? If it is no, then why is that?

3.1 UNIQUENESS OF THE TWO FIELDS

Science is defined as studying and understanding about natural phenomena. Understanding part of this definition can be explained more efficiently by using philosophy. Though these two are separated fields, they can help each other in understanding and reasoning.

Some people can say that those are two separated subjects and there is no bond between them. I totally disagree with them a later I will explain why it is so, by using an example.

3.2 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SCIENCE & PHILOSOPHY

What are the differences between science and philosophy? First, for understanding about their relationship, it is essential to aware about the differences. We will see what they are.

Table 1 Differences between Science and Philosophy

4. VALUE OF PHILOSOPHY

Let me experience it by using an example. If I asked to describe the anatomy of the human eye, I should have to write a specific answer which had introduced by biologists after many anatomical experiments, but if I asked to describe the role of a human in a democratic state, then I have no restrictions to write my own ideas. No limitations, but in both problems, we can use philosophy as being resolved bridge. To understand and analyze them, we can apply philosophy. That is the special on this valuable field.

In such a way we can apply the philosophy and we can explain almost all the problems that we are facing daily but this type of philosophical manner.

5. CONCLUSION

We have discussed about basic things about philosophy. Simply it can define as love of wisdom. Philosophy is based on thinking and reasoning. There is an indivisible bond between science and philosophy, though they have differences between the two fields. We can apply the philosophy to our day-to-day life. Rather than take it as a separate studying subject it is the best way to learn philosophy efficiently. Actually, philosophy does an enormous role in our daily life.
