ABSTRACT

Purpose of writing this article is giving my opinion about a certain topic among what we have learned during this week, in our philosophy course. Mainly we have learned about ethics and hedonism. Under these main topics we have discussed many branches of them. "Ethics" mean moral principles which effect on person's behavior or on any activity. These ethics are connected with aesthetics. "Hedonism" means a great concept of well-being. This is the most important lesson which I have learned from this week's content. Let us have a brief discussion on it.

Keywords: Hedonism, instrumental good, happiness, tension, ethical

1. Introduction

In this article, I am going to demonstrate my opinion about "hedonism". As I told you above, this concept is a great concept for well-being. That is why I have chosen my topic of this article " Have you ever met the fountain of happiness?" As I feel hedonism is that fountain. Under this topic I hope to discuss about some subtopics. Those are what we want for wellbeing? instrumental goods, intrinsically valuable things, what is hedonism? & Hedonism for a better life. I wish to explain things using my personal experiences when they need. By the end of this article, you will have a good idea about using hedonism in your lives.

2. WHAT WE WANT FOR WELL-BEING?

As human, we are living in a society. In this society we cannot live alone. We should have to make interactions with each other’s. Not only each other’s we need many more physical things. I mean we need food, houses, machines, tools, and other equipment. Is that all we need? This is the question that we are going to find answers.

2.1 INSTRUMENTAL GOODS

Food with nutrients, money, beautiful clothes and shoes, vaccinations, medicines; these are the some of the things that we need for well-being. Philosophers have called these things as instrumental goods. They are needed in a certain level, for a better life.

2.2 INTRINSICALLY VALUABLE THINGS

This means property of something that is valuable on its own. This is something more than objects. Intrinsically valuable things mean something has its own value. We will see furthermore by using examples.

 2.3 MY EXPERIENCES

When I won over a match, I was gifted by my parents. One day they gave me a mountain bicycle as a gift. When I won over the match, I can remember that I was happy. The reason for that was, I could show my talents to my coach, my parents and to my friends.
In here, the mountain bicycle which was gifted to me is an instrumental good that I need in my life. Meanwhile the happiness that I had gotten by my victory is an intrinsically valuable thing.
I think that now you have understood the difference between these two clearly.

3. HEDONISM

Hedonism is an ethical theory in philosophy, which is about happiness.

3.1 WHAT IS HEDONISM?

"Hedonism" is derived from a Greek word called hedone. It means pleasure. Hedonist is a person who tries to increase pleasure and decrease pain.

3.2 HEDONISM FOR A BETTER LIFE

Hedonism is a family of theories. In here major role is acted by happiness. This is one of the best theories to apply our day to day lives. This teaches us to avoid making our selves pain, and to control our mentality. Almost all the people in today society face a problem called stress. And high level of this stress is known as depression. According to my opinion, hedonism is the best medicine for them. They should be encouraged to think positively and do their work without any tension. They should learn how to deal with different situations in their lives. Then they will be capable of be positive and throw away their negative feelings. This should be the purpose of learning hedonism. Then only it can make a path for a better life.

3.3 CAN WE CONTROL HAPPINESS?

Answer for this question is yes. You can expand your ideas about this by studying the image that I have given below.

4. CONCLUSION
