ABSTRACT

I am writing this article to give my reflection about certain topic among what we have learned during this week, in our philosophy course. Mainly we have learned about race, ethnicity, culture, and prejudice. Under these main topics we have discussed too many subtopics of them. Those are racism, racial diversity, culture and power, racial discrimination, racial intensity, history of prejudice. But in this article, I am not going to discuss about all these things. I hope to choose a particular part which I was interested in studying and express my ideas on that topic. As I feel most interesting topic that I have discussed during this week is "race and racism". So, we will have a look on this matter via this article.

1. Introduction

In this article, I am going to express my opinion about "race and hedonism". I have chosen this topic as it is a major of today’s society, I think that it is better to talk about this topic. That is why I have selected my topic of this article "Make it a better place for you, me and the entire human race" Under this topic I hope to discuss about some subtopics. Those are what is race, human race, racism, ethnicity, what is ethnicity and differences between race and ethnicity. I hope to make your idea clearer by using social experiences which we are facing daily.
 

2. RACE & RACISM

As I told you at the beginning, I have chosen this topic as it is more important to today's our society. We are facing lots of troubles because of the racism.

2.1 WHAT IS RACE?

A category of people who have been recognized out on basis of physical characteristics such as skin color, eye shape, or color of hair is defined as race. Therefore, we can say that there is a biological background between races. According to my opinion, definition of race must be change over the time.

2.2 HUMAN RACE

As we categorize, world population can be divided mainly into four races. Those are Caucasian (white), Asian (Mongoloid), Negroid (black) and Australoid).
We are belonging to Mongoloid race and our features which we have been used to categorize as a different group are black, straight hair, dark eyes etc.
Though races are divided in this way, according to the biology all of us have categorized as Homo sapiens sapiens. According to my opinion entire human species are belongs to human race and nothing else.

2.3 RACISM

This is the point what I wanted to carry out. Racism can be defined as involving in rejection of traditional beliefs and carrying negative racial feelings to the society. According to my opinion, major effect for this social hazard is political issues.

 3. EXPERIENCE RELEVANT TO RACISM

In near history, I am sure that all of you can remember the incident happened in Aluthgama, Beruwala and Dharga town in Kalutara District. This incident was happened in 2014. In this case Muslims and their properties were attacked by Sinhalese. We are facing this type of troubles even today. When we consider about this situation, it might be based on misunderstanding among two races. But behalf of understanding the real situation people get aggressive and try to find quick solutions in stupid ways. This is the main reason to begin this type of racism issues. This is just one example which I have seen, and we can mention more examples like this. Racism is a huge pandemic and once if it starts, no more time take to spread all over the country. That is why I am trying to explain the importance of this topic and we must educate our young generations to live peacefully, and we should make them to know that all of us belong to human race.

4. ETHNICITY 

Ethnicity is sharing of common cultural traditions. Those common traditions are religions, languages etc. Ethnics groups mean groups which contain members who share certain beliefs, values, and customs because of their common backgrounds.

4.1 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RACE AND ETHNICITY

When we look at these words surface meanings It seems that these two terms are equal. Almost all the people may bear an idea like that. But there is a real difference between these two terms.
Race refers to human's physical characteristics such as skin color, shape of eyes color of hair while ethnicity refers to cultural factors such as religion, language, and other aspects of culture.

5. CONCLUSION

By the end of this article, I am sure that now you have a crystal-clear idea about race and ethnicity. My expectation is to make you awareness about black side of racism. We should learn these things to not to be a racist and to treat all races as one race. That is human race.
Then only we can make it a better place for you, me, and the entire human race.
